Ylang Ylang is a tropical flower
from a tree. Ylang Ylang means "flower of flowers." There
are several grades or qualities of this essential oil. The large flowers of
Ylang Ylang are subjected to fractional steam distillation, yielding, in
succession, Ylang Ylang extra, I, II, and III. The different grades smell
different because they vary in chemical composition. A "Complete" Ylang Ylang essential oil is
also available by non-fractional steam distillation of the flowers or by
combining the first three fractions.
"Complete" Ylang Ylang essential
oil is when the distillation is run until the end without removing any grades,
or all the different grades after distillation are mixed together. Complete
would be a good sub for jasmine (but though it can be used as a sub for the
floral sweetness of jasmine, it of course doesn't smell the same. It's like
comparing cow milk and soy milk, how many people say there is no difference, but
most people can tell. Since Ylang Ylang Complete is a mixture of Ylang Ylang
I, II, and III, it is the most effective and therapeutic between all Ylang Ylang
essential oils. This essential oil has a calming effect on the psyche helping to
calm frayed nerves and has been known to aid in stress reduction. It's
especially useful when nervous tension, anger and anxiety are present. Ylang
Ylang Complete is often considered to have anti-depressant qualities. This
essential oil can be quite soothing, and as such, is excellent to use when
relaxation is needed. A drop or two of Ylang Ylang in a diffuser at bedtime is
said to be helpful in treating insomnia.
Ylang Ylang Complete is
considered to be an aphrodisiac because it is simultaneously sedating as well as
stimulating. Inhaling it's aroma can bring thoughts of a luxurious tropical
island getaway! As an essential oil it has been credited with aiding in the
treatment of frigidity and impotence. Ylang Ylang Complete is sensual, warming,
calming and balancing. It contains antiseptic compounds and is good for skin
conditions and hair. It also helps to balance circulation and blood pressure.
This essential oil could well ease feelings of anger, anxiety, shock, panic and
fear. Useful with rapid breathing and heartbeat; its sedative properties could
help bring down high blood pressure. Soothes anger. Has a tonic and stimulating
effect on the scalp promoting a more luxurious hair growth. |

Therapeutic Essential Oils : |
|
This oil is Therapeutic Grade. Commercial Grade essential oils are usually made of the
left over plant materials after finishing the therapeutic distillation process.
The commercial
grade oils retain a robust fragrance suitable for soap making, candle making, as
well as cosmetic manufacturing. Unfortunately, because of the reduced active
therapeutic content, the commercial grade oils will not be suitable for aromatherapy or massage
therapy applications.
Silky Scents Essential Oils are all Pure and Therapeutic Grade, not
Commercial Grade. |

History:
In Indonesia, Ylang Ylang
flower petals are strewn upon the bed of newlywed couples. Ylang Ylang was a
popular ingredient of hair preparations in Europe and was known as Macassar
oil. The word anti-macassar originated from this, since an anti-macassar was
used to keep hair oil from staining upholstered furniture.
