Essential Oils are made from raw
plant material, consisting of the flowers, leaves, wood, bark, roots,
seeds, or peel. Essential oils are generally extracted by distillation.
Other processes include expression, or solvent extraction. Pure
essential oils have a wide range of therapeutic benefits. Essential
oils are highly concentrated liquids and therapeutic agents that can be
harmful if not used carefully. They should be used with respect and
basic understanding of their applications. The method you choose to
apply them can effect the results you receive. Essential oils should
never be used undiluted on the skin. Normal dilution is about 12 to 15
drops of the essential oil or synergistic blend to one ounce of
Carrier Oil such as
Sweet Almond,
Jojoba,
Apricot,
Sunflower,
Avocado,
Evening Primrose,
Grapeseed,
Hazelnut,
Rosehip,
Camelina, or just
Vitamin E Oil.
When using essential oils, use the smallest amount of essential oils
that will get the job done. Less is more when we speak of these powerful
healing essences.
Essential oils should only be taken internally after receiving a
detailed consultation and prescription from a trained and qualified
aromatherapy practitioner. The most popular or common way that the oils are usually administered,
is through an Aromatherapy Massage. Blend your chosen OILS or single oil
into a Carrier Oil. The recipe you are
using usually recommends the best carrier oil that would work for a
specific purpose). There are many introductory Essential Oils, as well
as massage books, on the market today that you can use to find excellent
recipes. You can also see our Free Recipe
section that has page after page of recipes organized under many
different categories. |
