Tea Tree essential oil is a wonderful oil with many benefits. In addition to the information provided in Silky Scents eight choices of Tea Tree essential oils, as well as many recipes in this section using it, in this page you will find more ways to use it.
 
     Cautions
Tea Tree oil is only for topical use on the skin and should never be ingested because it can be toxic. Although it can be used for shallow cuts, it should not be used for deep wounds. There is some evidence that tea tree oil may be harmful to cats with certain illnesses. People with sensitive skin have reported irritation when using tea tree oil so a starting dosage should be just a few drops and can even be diluted with water, if needed. Some users report a burning sensation when the pure oil comes in contact with sensitive areas like the nose, ear or mouth. If you develop a skin rash while using tea tree oil, you should discontinue use and consult your doctor if it doesn't clear up.
 

 

 
  Acne
   
 

Tea tree oil can help soothe the inflammation associated with acne and help heal pimples. People with sensitive skin may experience less irritation, drying and itching when using tea tree oil to treat acne as opposed to other traditional topical medications, such as benzoyl peroxide.

Add a few drops (Depending on your skin susceptibly) of tea tree oil directly onto infected area twice a day or 50 drops of tea tree oil to facial wash, apply twice daily. You can also gently wipe the acne-infected skin with a cotton ball soaked with diluted tea tree oil, the inflammation and infection is believed to reduce. It also prevents the development of new acne sores.

   
 
 
  After Shave Or Waxing
 
Add a few drops of tea tree oil onto razor blade before shaving.

Also, add a few drops of tea tree oil to 1 Tbs of aloe vera gel. Smooth over area.

 
 
 

Arthritis

For swelling, add a few drops of tea tree oil to 2 ounces of jojoba or grape seed oil; massage into affected are 2-3 times a day. Tea tree oil is very good for arthritis as it is able to penetrate and desensitize irritated nerve endings.

   
 
 
 
Asthma

Add a few drops of tea tree oil to a warm damp face cloth and breath through it for 1 minute. For best results repeat daily.

   
 
 
  Athletes Foot
 
Being a fungal based problem, Tea Tree Oil does a great job eliminating the problem. Clean feet thoroughly, especially between toes. Add tea tree oil directly to feet every two weeks. If you have sensitive skin, add 2-3 drops to ½ ounce of sweet almond oil carrier oil or a lotion and apply at least once a day. Massage on feet and between toes.

 
 
  Bad Breath, Sore gums & plaque
 
Add a few drops drops of tea tree oil on brush and brush with baking soda.

Do Not Swallow!

 
 
  Bath Salts
 
Add 10 to 15 drops of tea tree oil to 1/2 cup bath salt and then apply to water.

 
 
  Blisters
 
Wash area with soap and water. Apply 1 drop of tea tree oil 2 times daily.

 
 
   Boils
  Wash the area surrounding the boil thoroughly. Boils, respond well to tea tree oil. Use drops of tea tree oil directly on the boil, or make a hot compress using hot water and several drops of tea tree oil. Adding lavender oil to the water makes the compress smell better and introduces a second antibacterial herb. Soak a clean cloth in water infused with lavender and tea tree oil and apply the cloth to the boil for ten minutes at a time. The pus should come to a head and you can remove the core of the boil. Drop additional tea tree oil directly onto the boil to clear up any lingering bacterial infection.
 
 
  Bronchitis / Bronchial Congestion
 
Add 10 to 15 drops of tea tree oil to a hot bath and soak.

 
 
  Dandruff & Head Lice
 
Add Tea Tree to your shampoo for dandruff, dry or oily scalp, and itchy scalp. Use 10 drops to an 8 ounce bottle.

  Canker Sores
 
Add a few drops of tea tree oil directly to infected area with a cotton swab twice daily. Add 2-3 drops to 1 cup of water, swish around in mouth.

Caution: Do Not Swallow.

 

 
Cold Sores

Tea tree oil can reduce the painful healing time by as much as one half. Apply a few drops of tea tree oil directly to the infected area with cotton swab 2 times a day, to help prevent breakouts apply directly upon onset.

  
 
 
Coughs  
 
Add a few drops of tea tree oil to 4-6 cups warm water.

Drape towel over head and lean over warm water for 10 minutes, "gently inhale".

  
 
 
    Disinfectant  
 
Use 15 drops to quart of water in a spray bottle. Use on countertops or for general cleaning.

  
 
 
Dry Skin  
 
Add 5 to 10 drops of tea tree oil to 1 ounce sweet almond or apricot oil. Massage in to skin.

  
 
 
Fungus Nails  
 
Andrew Weil, M.D. in "Natural Health, Natural Medicine", says Tea Tree Oil will clear up fungal infections of both toenails and fingernails even if they are resistant to strong systemic antibiotics. Apply a few drops of tea tree oil directly to the infected area with cotton swab 2 times a day.

  
 
 
Laundry Disinfectant  
 
Add one teaspoon per load to disinfect laundry such as diapers or to prevent transmission of fungal infections. You can also Add 5 drops of Tea Tree Oil to the rinse cycle of your washing to help disinfect and freshen.
  
 
 
    Minor Cuts  
 
Clean area well! Apply tea tree oil full strength to area.

  
 
 
Mould & Mildew  
 
To remove mould and help prevent mildew, combine a capful of Tea Tree Oil with 200mL of white vinegar into a spray bottle. Shake well before each use. Spray on problem areas. Do not rinse.

  
 
 
Sinus & Bronchial Congestion  
 
Rub a few drops of the oil on the nose and sinuses and/or rub the oil on the chest. The vapors may be inhaled by adding five drops of the oil to a bowl of steaming hot water.

  
 
 
Skin Rash  
 
Skin irritations such as scaling, flaking and itching may be soothed by applying a few drops of  Tea Tree Oil added to lotion or a sweet almond carrier oil. Massage into affected area daily.

  
 
 
Sunburn  
 
Dilute one part Tea Tree Oil with ten parts of coconut oil and spread freely over the affected areas. This is can be soothing and pain-relieving and helps to reduce blistering and peeling.
